A simple and effective procedure that repairs and rejuvenates skin.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that promotes collagen and elastin production, leading to enhanced skin texture and appearance.

At Oatlands Aesthetics, we use the FDA-approved SkinPen microneedling device. It involves a device that resembles a pen with tiny needles at its tip. When these needles are gently applied to the skin, they create controlled micro-injuries. This encourages the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally – resulting in smoother, brighter, younger and healthier-looking skin.

The body detects the puncture of the needles as small injuries in the skin which triggers a healing process, stimulating natural collagen production. Resulting in improved skin texture and firmness, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

The speed and depth of the SkinPen are adjusted during treatment to ensure the best outcome for the targeted concerns.

Topical numbing cream is applied for 20-25 mins prior to starting the treatment. This will allow maximum patient comfort and the most effective results.

Microneedling (SkinPen) FAQs

1. Is SkinPen microneedling suitable for me?

The SkinPen is a great option if you’re looking to improve your overall skin quality.

It is safe to use on all skin types as it’s simply stimulating your body’s own healing responses. While SkinPen can be used alone, it’s often used as an adjunctive therapy to boost results from other treatments.

Some medical conditions may make you exempt from treatment, so it’s important to consult with the team first.

2. What happens during treatment?

We’ll begin by summarising the procedure, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and ensuring you are comfortable before getting started.

We’ll then cleanse your skin and apply a numbing cream to ease any discomfort before beginning the treatment by pressing the pen onto your skin and performing circular motions.

Treatment generally takes less than 30 minutes and will conclude with a cooling mask and cool globe therapy. We will provide you with aftercare guidance and your maintenance plan.

3. What results can I expect from microneedling with SkinPen?

After undergoing a course of SkinPen treatments, you can expect firmer, more supple skin with a natural glow.

Skin tone and texture will be improved, while fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring will be reduced.

A course of four to six treatments is recommended for optimal results.

4. Why do you use SkinPen over other microneedling devices?

We use the SkinPen device because it has extensive safety and efficacy data, including FDA approval, demonstrating its reliability for skin rejuvenation treatment in a comfortable way.

It has been clinically proven to address a range of concerns, with a medical licence to treat acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike other devices, we can control the depth and number of injections for even and successful results.

Compared to other available devices, the SkinPen is proven to target the specific skin layers necessary for stimulating desired results.

5. Does microneedling hurt and are there any side effects?

Numbing the skin beforehand will ease the mild discomfort associated with microneedling.

Your skin may look red and mild swelling can occur immediately after SkinPen treatment, but this should subside 24 hours.

6. Can I have other treatments alongside microneedling?

Yes.

We will often recommend a combination treatment approach to address all your skin and ageing concerns over an appropriate period of time.
