Thread Veins & Vascular Lesions

Also known as spider veins or telangiectasia, thread veins are small clusters of flat blue or red veins that most commonly appear on your nose, cheeks, chin and legs.

Other common vascular lesions are Venous lakes and Cherry angiomas. A venous lake is a dilated blood vessel that appears dark blue or purple, often with a dome-shaped appearance. They are usually found on the lips. Cherry angiomas are small, bright red, circular lesions similar to a freckle or mole in size that often appear on the trunk and limbs. They are typically harmless, but you may want to treat them to soften their appearance and reveal clearer, more even skin.

What causes thread veins?

Damage or pressure on capillaries and finer veins can lead to the occurrence of thread veins. These can also be triggered by genetics, sun damage, hormones, changes in temperature, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking and drinking alcohol.
