What causes rosacea?

Mainly affecting the face, rosacea is a long-term skin condition that can affect people of any skin colour or gender. But it may be harder to see on darker skin, and symptoms can appear worse in men than women.

Rosacea can be triggered by several factors that include consuming alcohol or hot drinks, hormones, skin sensitivity, eating spicy foods, excessive sun exposure, hot or cold temperatures, exercise and feeling stressed.

Despite managing these triggers, you may still suffer from rosacea and seek treatment. Symptoms range from a sunburn-type sensation across the mid-face to red bumps and visible blood vessels. Those who are fair-skinned and tend to blush are most prone to rosacea.
